USS Dowden was the class vessel for the Dowden-class Destroyers. She was built at the port in Baalkpan. Named for Larry Dowden who died in the Battle of Baalkpan Bay.
USS Dowden was commanded by Jim Ellis. She participated in the Battle of Raan-goon and the Campaign of Saa-lon (Ceylon) but was sank by the Grik fleet off Ceylon in the First Battle of Madras 1-19-44, crew rescued by USS Haaker-Faask [Fs Pb p. 349].
