Fred Reynolds is the youngest of the Destroyermen joining the navy at age 15. He is Walker's Talker in the first three books, becoming a pilot in Distant Thunders assigned to USS Walker. He and Kari-Faask are shot down in action of the New Briton Isles his back seater Kari is wounded in Rising Tides. He and Kari are brought down by Grik birds in Firestorm and captured by the Holy Dominion. They escape in Iron Gray Sea and are repatriated in Storm Surge. During his escape helped by Captain Anson, and he learns of the 1847 Americans or Los Diablos del Norte, and the passage between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
In River of Bones USS Matarife Launched USS Donaghey's PB-1 flown by Fred Reynolds and Kari-Faask taking Captain Samuel Anson to be the New United States liaison to Alliance forces in the Americas.
In Pass of Fire he and Kari-Faask have brought Captain Samuel Anson back to Cuba. Kari gives Fred grief over Tabitha Semmes his new girlfriend and the daughter of Commodore Semmes. Kari-Faask is jealous of her, and teases an embarrassed Fred, “Look at that! His ears is the same unnatural color as the fur on her head! It ain’t right. She proba’ly gave him some nasty islaand jungle raash!” [POF Hb. p. 70-71] Later Fred and Kari scout for the New United States Invasion near the northern most top of South America. Later in the book Fred and Kari are the communication with the stranded NUS invasion force.
