The PBY was found, nearly sunken, in a cove on the south coast of Jaava. Ben Mallory led the effort to get the airplane flying again. When ordered by David Kaufman to fly reconnaissance toward Ceylon, Mallory flew north instead and found his way back to USS Walker.
The PBY was transferred the same time as Santa Catalina, in March 1942. Most were killed by the Aboriginal Grik, leaving three survivors who are now among the native Lemurians on the Island where it had crashed.
The PBY's name was "Big Boobs".
